Well done to Orla Drumm who came 1st in the Womans 1500m final at the Indoor Athletics Championships taking place at the
Odyessy Arena on Sunday. Orla clocked an impressive 4.20.54 leading the field by over 2 seconds. Although Orla was Just off her personal best we think it might have been the porridge and eggs that helped her take out the competition!
Looking forward to having the Drumms back next year

Christmas Market coming to town…

Hard to believe there are only 12 weekends until Christmas Eve and with the annual Christmas Market at Belfast City Hall sure to be as popular as ever, Maranatha House is already booking up for the festive period!!
We are delighted to welcome back some of our long term guests (Mario the macaroon man) who enjoy a little of our warm Belfast welcome in the bed and breakfast before venturing out to serve the crowds with amazing Macaroons and festive drinks at the Christmas market.

Rihanna visits Belfast…

So, last week brought a full house for several nights with guests travelling from all over to see Rihanna in the Odyssey in Belfast. We had lots of excited fans (of all ages!!) staying with us and several went 2 nights in a row to enjoy what seems to have been an amazing concert. I wonder if the Co. Down farmer who threw Rihanna off his land was enjoying the show??

Belfasts b&b’s cater for Creature Comforts

Devoted pet owners will now be able to take their best friends on holiday anywhere in Northern Ireland.

More than 500 Northern Ireland Tourist Board-certified accommodation providers have now opened their doors to holidaying families and their pets.

Animal lovers can be assured of finding a comprehensive list of suitable B&Bs, guest houses, self-catering accommodation and hotels throughout the country.

NITB Destination PR Officer Nigel Tilson says the tourist board recognised the need for such a survey as pet-friendly accommodation was a “constant” factor for many holiday makers.

He said: “Some owners find it stressful to leave pets at home and it can also be very costly to find someone to look after them while they are away.”

The survey found that 173 pet-friendly accommodation providers welcomed pets inside, with 276 allowing pets to remain outdoors and 60 allowing pets by prior arrangement. Whether indoor or out, pets can now be assured of a place to stay in even the classiest of holidaying hotspots including Belfast’s Malmaison Hotel.

The survey found that there’s 333 self-catering options, 123 B&Bs, 26 guest houses, 24 hotels and three hostels that accept pets.

Fingers Crossed : Bid to attract more visitors

A sum of £12m is being pumped into an overseas campaign to promote Northern Ireland and its B&B’s as a holiday destination.

The Tourism Ireland campaign is being rolled out in Britain, America, mainland Europe and Australia. It will feature the attractions offered by more rural areas as well as city breaks in Belfasts bed and breakfasts !

Festivals and events such as Belfast Festival at Queen’s, the Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival in Londonderry and the MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast will be highlighted in TV, radio and online advertising.

Following the high-profile success of Northern Ireland’s golfers over the past 18 months the country will be marketed worldwide as The Home of Golf to showcase its facilities.

Tourism minister Arlene Foster said: “An intensive programme of activity is under way in Great Britain, which is our largest and most important tourism market. The autumn television campaign will reach up to 18.5 million potential holidaymakers, while over 16 million people will hear radio advertisements.

“With the completion of the Giant’s Causeway visitors’ centre, and the countdown to NI 2012 and the centenary of Titanic well under way, there has never been a better time for tourists to visit Northern Ireland.”

Tourism Ireland chief executive Niall Gibbons said: “In association with our industry colleagues we have enticing autumn/winter packages to offer consumers, developed around festivals and themes such as food, music, literature and the arts.”

A Gala Celebration of Belfast Literature

The biggest ever gathering of Belfasts writers has been held in the city centre, to mark the official launch of a series of new initiatives to highlight the citys rich literary heritage and vibrant contemporary scene.
